Model-Based Integration Of Embedded Software
PI Meeting

June 27-29, 2000
Hilton Monterey
Monterey, CA

Introduction | Agenda

Introduction

The goal of Model-Based Integration of Embedded Software (MoBIES) is to establish composability of large embedded software applications for temporal, noise, synchronization and dependability constraints. To do this we will use customizable frameworks and Model-Based Integration technology. Embedded software frameworks include reusable services for time, synchronization, communication, fault management, as well as other, domain dependent common functionalities. Composability will be achieved by enabling designers to capture the interrelationship of physical processes and embedded software in the form of integrated, multiple-view models and use these models directly to customize framework components. The primary technology outcome of the effort will be Model-Based Integration technology. The key technology components to be developed are model-based programming environments and model-based generators. Model-based programming environments will facilitate the construction and managing of integrated models of the physical end information processes. Model-based generators will translate relevant aspects of models to customization interfaces of framework components and to input languages of analysis tools. The Model-Based Integration technology will enable us to compose embedded systems satisfying cross cutting physical constraints. The primary advantage will be drastically reduced development and system integration cost. These advantages will be demonstrated in the context of avionics and vetronics challenge problems.

Requests for the MoBIES Kickoff Meeting

The goals of the kickoff meeting are the following:

  1. Overview of the projects.
  2. Understanding the Open Experimental Platforms (OEP) and related challenge problems.
  3. Initial discussions on technical issues that are critical for integrating the technology projects with the OEPs.
Preparation requests for the Kickoff Meeting:
  1. Prepare a 25 minutes presentation that focuses on the technical approach you pursue in your project. Keep in mind that the presentation is delivered for other participants in the program, so broad motivations and generalities are not needed. Be very specific and include in your discussions your views on how the technology you develop can be integrated with other, complementary technologies.
  2. Please bring an electronic copy of your presentation. We will have LCD projector available.
  3. We will form breakout sessions on topics that seem to be the most important for building interfaces among projects. Discussions on OEP issues, evaluation methods and approaches to tool integration will be definitely on the agenda.
